“Supreme Court Rejects Kejriwal’s Plea for Bail Extension Amid Liquor Scam Probe”

The Supreme Court registry today refused an urgent listing of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea seeking a seven-day extension of his interim bail for undergoing certain medical tests. Refusing to accept Kejriwal’s application, the Supreme Court registry stated that since he has been given liberty to move the trial court for regular bail, the plea is not maintainable.

The Delhi Chief Minister had obtained interim bail from Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta on May 10 and was instructed to surrender to Tihar jail on June 2. On May 17, the bench reserved the verdict on Kejriwal’s challenge to the validity of his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a PMLA case linked to the Delhi liquor scam.

Refusing to accept the application, the apex court mentioned that since the verdict on the challenge to the arrest is already reserved, Kejriwal’s plea for an extension of interim bail has no relation to the main petition.
