Consensus Reached to End Deadlock in Rajasthan Assembly Following Speaker’s Initiative

Jaipur : Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Speaker Shri Vasudev Devnani emphasized that the Assembly is a sacred institution of democracy, and it is the responsibility of both the ruling party and the opposition to uphold its dignity.

On Monday morning, a crucial meeting was held under the chairmanship of Shri Devnani in his office, attended by senior leaders of all major political parties from the 16th Legislative Assembly. The Speaker listened to the concerns of leaders from both the ruling and opposition parties regarding the recent disruptions in the Assembly, expressing his disappointment and distress over the situation. He stressed that such disruptions should not recur in the future. During the meeting, all parties reached a consensus to ensure the smooth and peaceful functioning of the House.

Shri Devnani urged the opposition to raise issues in a dignified and peaceful manner while ensuring that the state government provides appropriate responses. He further noted that the state budget will be presented in the Assembly on Wednesday, 19 February, and urged all parties to listen attentively, as the budget holds great significance for the state and its eight crore citizens. He reminded legislators that the proceedings are observed by the public, and their conduct should reflect discipline, decorum, and adherence to democratic ideals.

The Speaker also emphasized that the Assembly operates within the framework of rules, traditions, and parliamentary decorum. He called on all parties to cooperate in maintaining order during the budget session and to engage in meaningful debates within the allotted time. He urged members to respect one another, maintain decorum during Question Hour, and listen attentively when the Leader of the House or the Leader of the Opposition speaks. Furthermore, he stressed that members should raise their concerns only with the Speaker’s approval and in accordance with Assembly rules.

Shri Devnani affirmed that the rulings from the Speaker’s Chair must be followed by both the ruling and opposition parties, as this is an opportunity for legislators to present the dignity of the Assembly before the people.

The meeting, chaired by Shri Devnani, proved to be productive. Through his mediation, all parties agreed to end the deadlock in the Assembly ahead of the presentation of the budget for the third session of the 16th Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. He extensively discussed the issues raised by members to resolve disruptions.

The meeting was attended by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shri Jogaram Patel, Leader of Opposition Shri Tikaram Julie, Food & Supplies Minister Shri Sumit Godara, Chief Government Whip Shri Jogeshwar Garg, Chief Opposition Whip Shri Rafiq Khan, RLD leader Dr. Subhash Garg, and Assembly Principal Secretary Shri Bharat Bhushan Sharma.
