Rekha Gupta Sworn in as Delhi’s Chief Minister, Six Ministers Take Oath

New Delhi: Rekha Gupta has been sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Delhi, along with six MLAs who took the oath as ministers. The newly appointed ministers include Pravesh Verma, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh. The oath-taking ceremony was administered by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at Ramlila Maidan, marking a historic moment for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as it returns to power in Delhi after 27 years.

The swearing-in ceremony witnessed an enormous gathering at Ramlila Maidan, with three distinct stages set up for different groups of attendees. The main stage hosted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, the newly appointed Chief Minister, members of the Council of Ministers, and Chief Ministers and Deputy CMs of NDA-ruled states. The second stage accommodated religious leaders and special guests, while the third stage was dedicated to artists performing at the event.

Rekha Gupta is now the fourth woman to serve as the Chief Minister of Delhi, following in the footsteps of Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit, and Atishi. She took the oath in the presence of top political leaders and thousands of supporters, marking a significant milestone in her political journey. Gupta secured a decisive victory in the Delhi Assembly elections by defeating Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Bandana Kumari in the Shalimar Bagh constituency with a margin of over 29,000 votes.

Gupta was elected as the Chief Minister during the BJP Legislative Party meeting on Wednesday evening. Speaking to the media after her selection, she expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating, “Fulfilling the vision set by PM Modi for the people of Delhi will be my top priority. This honor is not just mine, but that of every mother and daughter in the country.”

The BJP’s victory in the Delhi Assembly elections is a historic achievement for the party, which has been out of power in the capital for nearly three decades. The election results, announced on February 8, saw the BJP securing 48 out of 70 seats, while AAP was reduced to just 22 seats. Rekha Gupta’s leadership marks a new chapter for Delhi as she takes charge with a promise to implement BJP’s vision for the city.

With her first-time election as an MLA and immediate elevation to the Chief Minister’s office, Rekha Gupta’s rise in Delhi politics has been swift. As she assumes office, all eyes will be on her governance and the policies she implements to shape the future of the national capital.
