Workshops to Be Organized for Various Aspects of the Film Industry – Announcement by Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar

Inauguration of ‘Chitrangan’ Multipurpose Auditorium at Dadasaheb Phalke Film City

Mumbai : Cultural Affairs Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar announced that various initiatives, including workshops for emerging Marathi film writers, acting workshops for aspiring youth from rural and urban areas, production workshops for filmmakers, and film appreciation workshops to cultivate film-literate audiences, will be conducted through Goregaon Film City. He made this announcement during the inauguration of ‘Chitrangan,’ a multipurpose auditorium at Dadasaheb Phalke Film City.

On this occasion, he also inaugurated the newly renovated Studio No. 8 and reviewed the administrative operations of the film city. Present at the event were Maharashtra Film, Stage & Cultural Development Corporation Managing Director Swati Mhase-Patil, Joint Managing Director Dr. Dhananjay Sawalkar, Chief Finance Officer Chitralekha Khatu-Ravarane, Civil Engineer Vijay Bapat, Electrical Engineer Anant Patil, and Special Executive Officer Sanjay Krishnaji Patil.

Workshops for Writers, Producers, Artists, and Technicians

“This year, through Goregaon Film City, a workshop will be organized for emerging writers in the Marathi film industry. Additionally, acting workshops will be conducted for aspiring youth from both rural and urban areas. To encourage Marathi filmmakers to adopt a business-oriented approach, workshops on film distribution, economics, international film festivals, and global film markets are planned. Furthermore, film appreciation workshops will be held to develop an audience with a deeper understanding of cinema.”

Nashik to Get a New Film City

To promote the growth of the entertainment industry across Maharashtra, plans are in place to establish a film city in Nashik, similar to those in Kolhapur, N.D. Studio (Karjat), and Nagpur. Minister Ashish Shelar stated that the proposed Nashik Film City will be developed on government land in Mundegaon, Igatpuri, Nashik district.

Marathi Film Festival Scheduled from April 21 to 24, 2025

Minister Shelar also announced that an international-standard Marathi Film Festival will be held at P.L. Deshpande Kala Academy from April 21 to 24, 2025.

Speaking at the event, Managing Director Swati Mhase-Patil expressed that Film City is progressing towards its 50th year and, in celebration, new projects and development initiatives are underway. She emphasized that Film City is committed to preserving and promoting cinema, theater, and the arts under the motto “Manovikasay Kalavilas” (Art for Intellectual Growth). The newly created ‘Chitrangan’ will serve as a hub for film screenings, reviews, and workshops.
