Workshop Organized Under the Auspices of Australia India Water Centre in Presence of Public Health Engineering Minister

Agreement Signed Between Rajasthan Government and South Australia for Technical Collaboration in Water Sector

Jaipur : A workshop was organized on Monday under the auspices of the Australia India Water Centre (AWIC) in the presence of Public Health Engineering Minister Shri Kanhaiya Lal and South Australia’s Water Ambassador, Ms. Carlin Mewald.

During the workshop, the Minister emphasized the need for long-term sustainability of drinking water sources and called for joint technological research and collaboration to enhance water resource management. He stressed the importance of community participation in water conservation and ensuring that the benefits of the Jal Jeevan Mission remain effective in the long run.

MoU Signed for Technological Exchange and Cooperation

An agreement was signed between the Rajasthan Government and South Australia through AWIC to facilitate technical collaboration and exchange of innovations in the water sector. The agreement included discussions on addressing Rajasthan’s drinking water challenges through various solutions, such as:

  • Preventing water evaporation in reservoirs and integrating them with solar energy solutions
  • Ensuring efficient utilization of drinking water with minimal costs
  • Implementing technical support for wastewater recycling
  • Enhancing groundwater recharge using scientific methods in collaboration with the Groundwater Department

The discussion also covered ensuring community participation in water conservation, scientific approaches to sustainable water management, and developing shared strategies among stakeholders.

Key Focus Areas of the Workshop

The workshop also focused on:

  • Developing effective plans for Reverse Osmosis (RO) waste water management
  • Enhancing interdepartmental progress in surface water, agriculture, groundwater, and infrastructure
  • Capacity building for engineers in the Public Health Engineering Department
  • Ensuring drinking water quality alongside the Jal Jeevan Mission
  • Strengthening rainwater harvesting systems in South Rajasthan
  • Actively conserving the entire water ecosystem in the Chambal River catchment area
  • Formulating a comprehensive water policy and governance framework

Participation of Key Officials and Experts

The event was attended by Additional Chief Secretary of the Public Health Engineering Department, Shri Bhaskar A. Sawant, Mission Director (Jal Jeevan Mission) Shri Qamar Ul Zaman Chaudhary, and MNIT Professor Shri A.B. Gupta, among other distinguished participants.
