Fadnavis Backs Proposal for Disabled Teachers’ Adjustment in Maharashtra

Mumbai : Teaching disabled students without instilling a sense of inferiority is a challenging task. The importance of this issue has been highlighted in the new education policy. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today directed that the government is committed to the adjustment of visually impaired and disabled teachers in the state, and a proposal in this regard should be brought before the cabinet.

According to the statement of the National Blind Association, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Shri Fadnavis held a meeting at the Sahyadri Guest House. The meeting was chaired by School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar, Principal Secretary of the School Education Department Mrs. I.A. Kundan, Principal Secretary of the Disability Welfare Department Sumant Bhange, Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister Shrikar Pardeshi, Disability Welfare Commissioner Praveen Puri, Education Commissioner Suraj Mandhare, Maharashtra Primary Education Council Project Director (Comprehensive Education) Pradeep Kumar Dange, Deputy Secretary of the School Education Department Sameer Sawant, Tushar Mahajan, and officials from the National Blind Association, Maharashtra, and the Teacher Council.

Deputy Chief Minister Shri Fadnavis instructed that transport allowance should be provided to these teachers as per the government decision. The Tata Social Society has prepared a detailed report on the number of teachers per student and the provision of teachers for disabled students as required by the type of disability. He emphasized the government’s positive stance on the adjustment of disabled teachers. Other subjects related to teachers were also discussed during the meeting, and the officials of the organization presented their demands.
