Veteran Actor Manoj Kumar Passes Away at 87

Mumbai: Legendary Indian actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar, fondly known as ‘Bharat Kumar’, passed away on Friday at the age of 87. He breathed his last at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. Known for his iconic contributions to patriotic cinema, his passing marks a profound loss for Indian cinema.

Manoj Kumar was celebrated for films that stirred national pride and captured the spirit of India. After the success of his 1967 film Upkar, he went on to deliver several patriotic blockbusters such as Purab Aur Paschim, Shor, and Kranti. These films resonated deeply with the Indian public, instilling a sense of national pride that earned him the enduring nickname ‘Mr. Bharat’.

In recognition of his contributions to Indian cinema, he was awarded the Padma Shri and the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. His influence went far beyond the screen—his stories, characters, and ideals became a part of India’s cultural identity.

Industrialist Anand Mahindra expressed his grief in a heartfelt tribute: “I feel as if I’ve lost an important part of my childhood. My family never missed any of Manoj Kumar’s films. I vividly remember the patriotic fervour sparked by Purab Aur Paschim. Manoj Kumar wasn’t just an actor—he became a member of every Indian household.”

As the nation mourns the loss of this cinematic icon, his legacy will continue to inspire generations. Om Shanti.
