Lucknow : In a significant step towards elevating pharmaceutical and healthcare innovation in Uttar Pradesh, Promote Pharma Ltd. organized a high-level roundtable conference on clinical trials at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow. The conference was held under the aegis of the state government’s “One Trillion Dollar Economy” initiative, with support from Deloitte India. It brought together policymakers, leading pharma industry representatives, academicians, and clinical research experts from across the country. Senior delegates from prestigious organizations such as CDSCO, ICMR, Hetero Drugs, Fresenius Kabi Oncology, AiMed, APAR Health, and the Indian Society for Clinical Research were present.
Stronger industry-academia collaboration essential
The program was inaugurated by Prof. Sonia Nityanand, Vice Chancellor of KGMU, who highlighted the university’s achievements in medical research and education, as well as future plans. The keynote address was delivered by Parth Sarathi Sen Sharma, IAS, Principal Secretary, Medical Education Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh. He emphasized, “The core of all innovation should be the welfare of the patient. For this, strong partnerships between industry and academia are crucial.”
Focus on empowering the healthcare system through clinical trials
Experts such as Dr. G.N. Singh (former DCGI and advisor to the Chief Minister), Prof. Y.K. Gupta, A.K. Pradhan (CDSCO), and Dr. Neelima Kshirsagar (ICMR) shared their views on how clinical trials can strengthen the healthcare system. Principals, deans, and nodal officers of 20 key medical institutions in the state participated in the discussions, aimed at strengthening the clinical trial ecosystem at the grassroots level.
In the closing address, Dr. Mannan Akhtar, IAS, CEO of Promote Pharma, mentioned that the company is working with inspiration from the BIRAC model and is soon planning strategic partnerships with THSTI, BIRAC, and AKTU. Work is also underway to develop 20 medical institutions as clinical trial sites.
