Fatima Sana Smashes Fastest Fifty in Women’s T20Is as Pakistan Captain Creates History
Karachi, May 2026 : Fatima Sana produced one of the most explosive innings in women’s T20 cricket history, smashing the fastest half-century in Women’s T20 Internationals during Pakistan’s third T20I against Zimbabwe women’s national cricket team in Karachi on Thursday.
The Pakistan captain reached her fifty in a stunning 15 balls, breaking the previous international record jointly held by Sophie Devine, Phoebe Litchfield and Richa Ghosh, all of whom had achieved the landmark in 18 deliveries.
Sana’s breathtaking knock also equalled the overall record for the fastest fifty in women’s T20 cricket across all competitions, matching feats previously achieved by Marie Kelly for Warwickshire in 2022 and Laura Harris for Otago earlier this year in New Zealand’s Super Smash tournament.
The 24-year-old walked in to bat with Pakistan already in a commanding position at 152 for 4 in the 17th over after electing to bat first. What followed was a brutal assault on the Zimbabwe bowling attack that completely transformed the innings.
Sana signalled her intentions immediately, opening her account with a boundary off Michelle Mavunga. She then unleashed a flurry of attacking strokes against Kudzai Chigora, hammering four consecutive boundaries to put the visitors under immense pressure.
The defining moment of the innings came in the penultimate over bowled by Nomvelo Sibanda. Sana tore into the left-arm spinner with extraordinary aggression, smashing 4, 4, 6, 6 and 4 in an over that yielded 24 runs.
By the end of the over, Sana had raced to 48 off just 14 deliveries and stood on the verge of history. Remaining composed despite the occasion, she calmly nudged Zimunu for a couple on the second ball of the final over to bring up her record-breaking half-century in just 15 balls.
The Pakistan skipper was not finished yet. She continued the onslaught by striking two more boundaries before ending unbeaten on a sensational 62 off only 19 balls. Her astonishing innings included 10 fours and two towering sixes and came at an extraordinary strike rate of more than 326.
Sana’s late blitz powered Pakistan women’s national cricket team to a massive total of 223 for 4 in 20 overs, the second-highest total in Pakistan women’s T20I history. Their highest total remains the 237 they posted earlier in the same series against Zimbabwe.
Before Sana’s historic effort, the record for the fastest T20I fifty by a Pakistani woman cricketer belonged to Nida Dar, who had reached the milestone in 20 balls against South Africa women’s national cricket team in 2019.
Sana’s remarkable innings is the latest highlight in what has been an outstanding year for the all-rounder. She has emerged as Pakistan’s leading run-scorer in women’s T20 Internationals in 2026, scoring 229 runs from just five innings at a phenomenal strike rate of 206.30 — currently the best strike rate among all women’s T20I batters this year who have faced more than 10 balls.
Earlier this year, Sana had already showcased her destructive batting ability with a career-best 90 off 41 balls against South Africa.
With her latest record-breaking performance, Fatima Sana has firmly established herself as one of the most dangerous power-hitters in women’s cricket and a key figure in Pakistan’s rapidly evolving T20 setup.
