Tripura-Based Companies Discuss Mizoram Gas Pipeline Construction with State Minister B. Lalchhanzova

Mamit : Pu B. Lalchhanzova, Minister for Food & Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs, Land Revenue & Settlement, convened a meeting at the DC Conference Hall in Mamit with officials from Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL) and Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited (TNGCL), the companies currently working on the gas pipeline project from Tripura to Mizoram.

The Minister emphasized that, as this project involves transporting gas from Panisagar in Tripura to Mizoram via an underground pipeline, the public deserves clarity and transparency. He stated that the government must ensure safe and efficient progress of the work. Given Mizoram’s hilly terrain, the implementing companies must thoroughly assess and confirm the safety of the pipeline construction. The gas being transported is to be used for electricity generation in homes, and because it is of a superior quality, it is crucial that the pipelines used are robust and leak-proof. He reassured the public that there is no cause for concern and that the gas will be available at a more affordable rate than currently.

The Minister also noted that in order for the gas pipeline project to progress efficiently, regular review meetings must be held between the District Administration, FCS&CA, Commerce & Industries Department, and the PWD, which manages road infrastructure along the pipeline route. The government is fully committed to addressing any challenges that arise during construction.

The gas pipeline is 104 km in total, stretching from Panisagar in Tripura to Sihmui in Mizoram, with approximately 100 km passing through Mamit District. The project is expected to be completed by March 31, 2027, and so far, 23.148 km of the pipeline has been laid. The gas pipeline network in Tripura has been in operation since 1990. While IGGL is responsible for pipeline construction up to Mizoram’s border, the Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited will handle connections within Mizoram.

Today’s meeting also included a presentation by IGGL and TNGCL on various aspects of the project and its implementation. Further discussions were held with officials to clarify issues and gather feedback.

The review meeting was chaired by Pu K. Laltlawmlova, District Commissioner, and was attended by the Secretary and Director of FCS&CA, Superintendent of Police, Mamit, other government officials from Mamit town, and representatives of the companies involved in the project.

Later, Minister B. Lalchhanzova visited the ongoing pipeline worksite in southern Mamit and held interactions with staff from the Land & Revenue Department and the Food & Civil Supplies Office.
