Harshita Thakur is epitome of determination & inspiration: Himachal Pradesh Governor
The honourable Governor of Himachal Pradesh Mr. Shiv Pratap Shukla on Wednesday honoured special child Harshita Thakur, a young snowboarding champion from Shimla, who has become a beacon of hope and inspiration for millions.
Sharing her journey to a silver medal finish at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Italy, Harshita’s father, Sohan Singh, said that despite the physical challenge, her feat in the international event is a testament to her unwavering determination, hard work, and the power of dreams. Born with challenges, Harshita never let her limitations define her.
Ramesh Sharma, a renowned tutor in a training academy, said that Thakur was introduced to snowboarding through the training programmes at Himachal Pradesh’s Vidya Peeth; Harshita discovered her passion for the sport. Under the guidance of her coaches, she began rigorous training, overcoming physical and mental barriers with sheer perseverance. The road to success was not easy. The icy slopes demanded balance, focus, and courage — qualities Harshita developed through relentless practice. Her efforts paid off when she represented India at the Special Olympics in Italy. Competing against athletes from around the world, Harshita displayed exceptional skill and confidence, securing a silver medal and making her nation proud. Her achievement was celebrated across India, and upon her return, she was honoured by Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Raj Bhawan.
The governor has praised her as a role model for the youth, emphasising that her success proves no dream is too big with dedication. Harshita also had the privilege of meeting the Prime Minister, an experience she cherishes deeply.
