Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Urges Public to Avoid Feeding Cows on Roads
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed concern after witnessing a man feeding a cow with roti on the roadside. While passing through a city road, she noticed the man tossing food towards a cow, prompting her to stop and address the issue directly.
Gupta cautioned the individual, explaining that such actions, though well-intentioned, can endanger both animals and commuters. “Throwing roti on the road attracts cows, which may lead them to wander onto busy roads, posing a threat to public safety and their own lives,” she said. “Roti is not just food—it holds cultural, spiritual, and emotional value in our traditions. It must be treated with respect.”
The Chief Minister shared a video of her conversation with the man on social media platform X, urging Delhiites not to throw food on the roads. In the video, the first-time BJP MLA introduces herself and appeals to the man to avoid feeding stray animals in such a manner. The man is seen listening respectfully and agreeing to her request.
Gupta further wrote in Hindi, “If you wish to feed animals, please do so at a gaushala or designated space. This reflects our responsibility and values as a society. Food should never be disrespected.”
Her statement follows a recent incident where her convoy was delayed for about 15 minutes on the Haiderpur flyover due to cows blocking the road. Gupta was seen stepping out of her vehicle to assess the situation, after which her security team safely guided her back.
Her appeal highlights the growing need for civic awareness and thoughtful public behavior regarding stray animals and road safety.
