Yogi govt prioritizes worker safety with launch of UPPCL’s ‘Safeline Abhiyan’
Lucknow : The Yogi government, in its ongoing efforts to enhance employee safety, has introduced the “Safeline Abhiyan” through the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL). The initiative, aimed at preventing electrical accidents and ensuring the well-being of field workers, was officially launched online by UPPCL Chairman Dr. Ashish Goel.
This campaign aligns with the government’s broader vision to improve the safety standards for workers in the power sector, following several reforms and digitalization steps in the department. The campaign underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of those working on the frontlines of the power sector.
Under the Safeline Abhiyan, lineworkers will receive essential safety training while performing their tasks. The program is being managed by IntelliSmart, the company responsible for installing smart meters in the Madhyanchal and Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam areas (Uttar Pradesh Power Distribution Corporations).
Lineworkers are the frontline employees who handle electricity-related tasks. They will be trained on the use of safety kits, safety precautions, and measures at work sites. The training will highlight the importance of using safety equipment like jackets, helmets, gloves, and safety shoes.
The training program began on Wednesday with 800 lineworkers from 14 divisions participating. Training will continue in phases every 6th of the month and will run until December 2025, ensuring all lineworkers across the state are trained.
Dr. Ashish Goel, Chairman of UPPCL, highlighted the corporation’s commitment to employee safety, stating, “UPPCL is very sensitive about the safety of its employees. Safety equipment is being purchased across the state, and all contractual workers are urged to stay aware and use the equipment at all times.”
Senior officials from UPPCL and Anil Rawat, MD and CEO of Intelismart, were also present at the event. IntelliSmart is also involved in installing smart meters in other states like Bihar, Gujarat, and Assam.
