Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare Directs Speedy Implementation of Ahilya Bhavan in Raigad District
Mumbai : Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare has directed officials to immediately submit a proposal for the land identified in Raigad district for the construction of Ahilya Bhavan, Government Women’s Shelter, Child Helpline, Women Empowerment Centre, and One Stop Centre.
A review meeting was held at Mantralaya to assess the progress of the Ahilya Bhavan project in Raigad. The meeting was attended by Secretary Dr. Anupkumar Yadav, Commissioner Kailas Pagare, Revenue Department’s Joint Secretary Ajit Deshmukh, CIDCO’s Joint Managing Director Ganesh Deshmukh, Panvel Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale, Joint Commissioner Rahul More from the Women and Child Development Department, Executive Engineer Jagdish Sukhdeve, and other officials.
Minister Tatkare instructed that a proposal be submitted through the commissioner to transfer 60 gunthas (approx. 1.5 acres) of land in Alibag earmarked for Ahilya Bhavan. She emphasized expediting the construction process of Ahilya Bhavan. She also directed that the Government Krupa Women’s Shelter Home for mentally challenged, orphaned, destitute, and underprivileged women, currently located in Karjat, be shifted to Alibag. Until the new Ahilya Bhavan becomes operational, the Sakhi One Stop Centre should continue functioning from the PWD Guest House, she added.
Under the Mission Shakti scheme, Minister Tatkare also directed the establishment of a Women Empowerment Centre and the hiring of staff on a contract basis for the same. Additionally, she instructed officials to start a Sakhi One Stop Centre in Panvel Municipal Corporation area, and initiate action to set up a hostel in New Panvel for female students and women pursuing higher education.
Finally, Minister Tatkare stressed the need to fill vacant positions within the Women and Child Development Department and to speed up the ongoing recruitment process.
