Eastern Railway Achieves Stellar Financial Performance In Financial Year 2024–2025.

Eastern Railway has recorded a remarkable financial performance in the recently concluded financial year 2024–2025, reflecting its unwavering commitment to infrastructure development, efficient resource utilization, and strong fiscal discipline.

One of the standout achievements for the year was the significant surge in Capital Expenditure (CAPEX), which has registered a near 20% increase over the previous fiscal. The CAPEX for FY 2024–2025 stood at ₹4,452 crores, as compared to ₹3,725 crores in FY 2023–2024. This substantial investment underscores Eastern Railway’s dedication to comprehensive infrastructural upgradation and successful execution of development projects across its network.

Eastern Railway also posted impressive growth in earnings. The total originating earnings rose by 17%, reaching ₹14,273 crores in FY 2024–25, up from ₹12,207 crores in the previous year. This robust performance is indicative of enhanced freight and passenger service capabilities, improved customer outreach, and operational efficiency. In addition, sundry earnings — a key indicator of auxiliary revenue streams — saw a record-breaking 34% growth. Earnings in this category rose to ₹629 crores in FY 2024–25, up from ₹470 crores in FY 2023–24, reflecting successful monetisation of non-core assets and innovative revenue-generation measures.

A particularly noteworthy milestone was the achievement of the lowest operating ratio during 2024-25, in the past decade, signalling Eastern Railway’s strong financial management and commitment to fiscal prudence. This accomplishment highlights the Railway’s ability to balance growth with cost efficiency.
