57 smart municipalities taking shape along the lines of smart cities

Lucknow : Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh has launched an ambitious initiative to transform 57 municipalities into smart cities. The Urban Development Department is developing these municipalities, primarily at district headquarters, to align with CM Yogi’s core vision of “Ease of Living” in urban spaces.

The state has already developed 17 smart cities in line with this transformative vision. Extending this momentum, work has commenced on upgrading 57 additional municipalities with cutting-edge civic infrastructure and modern amenities.

A substantial budget of approximately Rs 40,000 crore has been earmarked for this project, with Rs 145 crore already sanctioned as initial funding to kickstart development.

These smart municipalities will incorporate state-of-the-art features guided by the principles of digital governance, smart physical and urban infrastructure, sustainable development, and improved citizen services. The aim is not just to enhance civic amenities but also to stimulate local economies through increased investment, tourism, job creation, and environmental protection.

Smart municipalities will be equipped with digital systems to streamline administrative functions, ensuring transparency and efficiency. Features include CCTV surveillance integrated with ICC centers, AI-driven civic service management, chatbot-based citizen interaction, and integrated cowshed management systems.

In line with Smart City standards, these municipalities will offer advanced civic amenities and measures to control air, water, and noise pollution. Plans include effective water logging solutions and uninterrupted power and water supply systems.

Facilities such as smart parking, digital traffic and lighting management, and designated vending zones for street vendors will be created. Additional developments to enhance the urban experience include CC roads, junction redesign, digital libraries, exhibition centers, and auditoriums.

In line with CM Yogi’s vision for a greener future, smart municipalities will prioritize the use of renewable energy, especially solar power. Environmental conservation and sustainability will be at the heart of all development initiatives.
