“YouTube Should Collaborate in IICT and Education Sector” – Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
CM meets YouTube CEO Neal Mohan
Mumbai : India’s creativity is unparalleled, and Mumbai stands at the forefront as the country’s “Creative Capital.” In the near future, an Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) will be established in Mumbai. YouTube’s involvement in shaping this institution is essential. If YouTube collaborates in transforming the education sector through technology, the results will be significantly positive, said Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Chief Minister Fadnavis met with YouTube’s Chief Executive Officer, Neal Mohan, at Hotel Taj End, Bandra. Their discussions revolved around Mumbai’s creative economy, the upcoming WAVES Summit in Mumbai, YouTube’s growing follower base across Mumbai, Maharashtra, and India, as well as its expanding role in education and other sectors. Present at the meeting were Additional Chief Secretary to the CM Vikas Kharge, Secretary Shrikar Pardeshi, and Special Officer Kaustubh Dhavse.
During the conversation, the Chief Minister emphasized that YouTube could serve as an effective medium to reach remote areas with educational content. Educational material uploaded using various creative approaches on YouTube could significantly enhance student engagement and comprehension. Even through creators, educational content can be made accessible in a simplified manner, making complex subjects easier for students to understand. This could spark a transformative change in the education sector, and YouTube’s cooperation with the government in this domain would be pivotal.
Fadnavis further appealed to YouTube to work in collaboration with the government in setting up the Indian Institute of Creative Technology in Mumbai. This institute will focus on designing courses, selecting future creative disciplines, and launching certificate, short-term, and long-term programs. YouTube could play a critical role in this endeavor. Mumbai has the potential to become the “Creative Capital of the World,” and the establishment of such an institute will further strengthen that claim.
The Chief Minister also noted that YouTube has provided a global platform for many creative individuals to showcase their talent. Hidden artistic talents have emerged thanks to YouTube, with many creators not only gaining recognition but also generating a steady income through their channels.
