“Petition Committee: Championing Justice for All – Dr. Neelam Gorhe”
Mumbai, Dt. 2: The work of resolving the pending issues of society and providing justice to the masses is being effectively carried out through the Petition Committee of the Legislative Council, based on the representations received from its members. Over the last 10 years, this committee has submitted 20 very important reports, and the government has taken proper notice of them and taken action, informed Dr. Neelam Gorhe, Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council and Ex-officio Committee Head of the Legislative Council Petition Committee.
Today, Deputy Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Council and Head of the Petition Committee, S. K. Pranesh, led the committee members on a study visit to Vidhan Bhawan, Mumbai. During this visit, they received information about the Legislative Council committee work in both states and had a detailed discussion with Deputy Chairman Dr. Gorhe.
The Maharashtra Legislative Council Rule 237-A has been amended to grant the Speaker the power to refer received petitions to the Committee. The Speaker can now refer any petition to the Petition Committee for examination and submission of a report even during the non-session period. This information was also shared during the discussion by Deputy Chairman Dr. Gorhe.
At the beginning of the meeting, Deputy Chairman Dr. Gorhe welcomed Deputy Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council S. K. Pranesh with a bouquet of flowers. The invited members of this committee, MLA Mahadev Jankar, MLA Rajesh Rathod, and members of the study group from Karnataka—Sunil Valyapure, S. L. Boje Gounda, Kushalappa M. P., Sudam Das, and Pradeep Shettar—were also welcomed with flowers. Legislature Secretary Vilas Athawale and Under Secretary Suresh Mogal, along with other officers and staff of the committee, were present on this occasion.
