24 Airports Closed Amid Ongoing India-Pakistan Tensions
New Delhi – As tensions between India and Pakistan escalate, the Indian government has announced the closure of at least 24 airports in northern and western parts of the country to civilian flights until 5:29 AM on May 15. This decision extends an earlier closure that was in effect until May 10 due to rising military activity in the region.
Airports impacted by this order include key terminals such as Srinagar, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jammu, Leh, and Jodhpur, among others. The full list also features Ludhiana, Bhuntar, Kishangarh, Patiala, Shimla, Dharamshala, Bathinda, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Pathankot, Jamnagar, Bhuj, and Rajkot.
Sources confirmed the development on Friday evening, citing national security concerns. Airlines operating in these areas have since announced temporary flight cancellations in compliance with government directives.
Air India posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Due to the closure of multiple airports as per aviation authority directives, Air India flights to Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Bhuj, Jamnagar, and Rajkot are cancelled till 5:29 AM on May 15.” The airline added that passengers holding valid tickets during this period are eligible for a one-time rescheduling waiver or a full refund upon cancellation.
IndiGo also confirmed flight cancellations to 10 affected destinations, including Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Bikaner, Rajkot, Jodhpur, and Kishangarh, until the specified date and time.
The temporary airport closures have disrupted travel plans for many and raised concerns over further developments in the ongoing cross-border standoff.
