Railways Run Special Trains After Airport Closures in Jammu and Chandigarh

New Delhi – In response to the closure of airports in Jammu and Chandigarh, the Indian Railways has stepped in to assist stranded passengers by operating special trains. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reviewed the situation and directed officials to coordinate with government agencies to ensure smooth rail connectivity, especially for those in border areas.

Following his instructions, four special trains were operated on May 9, 2025, from Jammu and Udhampur. The move comes as a relief for travelers affected by the ongoing airspace restrictions due to heightened tensions along the India-Pakistan border.

The first special train, 04612, departed from Jammu at 10:45 AM, comprising 12 unreserved and 12 reserved coaches. A 20-coach Vande Bharat Express left Udhampur at 12:45 PM, passing through Jammu and Pathankot en route to New Delhi. Another special train with 22 LHB coaches departed from Jammu at 7:00 PM. Additionally, a second Vande Bharat special train left Jammu at 3:30 PM and is scheduled to reach New Delhi in the evening.

These special services aim to ensure uninterrupted travel and minimize inconvenience caused by the temporary suspension of flights in the region.
