“Ensure Preparatory Measures for Plantation in View of the Upcoming Monsoon Season” – Panchayati Raj Minister
Jaipur – A review meeting was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Panchayati Raj Minister Shri Madan Dilawar regarding the intensive plantation campaign to be conducted in 2025.
The Panchayati Raj Minister stated that under the Chief Minister’s previous call to action, seven crore saplings were planted across the state. This time, the goal is to plant 25 crore saplings. He instructed officials to ensure all preparatory measures are in place ahead of the upcoming monsoon season. Highlighting the environmental challenges of the future, he emphasized the importance of planting as many trees as possible.
He mentioned that this year, the target is to plant 25 crore saplings. For this, pits will be dug under the MGNREGA scheme. The plantation campaign will also be carried out under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam – Hariyalo Rajasthan’ initiative.
Minister Madan Dilawar said, “If there is determination, anything is possible. We will once again strive to fully implement the Chief Minister’s directives. This is a collective responsibility.”
He stressed the need to plant more trees to help regulate rising temperatures. According to environmental experts, each individual should ideally be supported by around 420 plants, whereas Rajasthan currently has only about 28 trees per person.
The plantation campaign will begin on 1st July. The minister affirmed that “there is no shortage of space” and directed that specific locations for plantation should be identified. Plantation efforts will be undertaken at all levels — from Gram Panchayats to public premises, cremation grounds, cemeteries, sports fields, schools, Oran lands, grazing fields, state highways, national highways, and other such areas.
He emphasized that these areas should be transformed over the next four years into lush green and scenic spaces through dense plantation efforts, thereby making them serene and beautiful destinations.
Minister Dilawar also directed that the choice of plants should be based on the local climate and soil conditions. To ensure the transparency and effectiveness of the campaign, he instructed that a strong monitoring mechanism be established.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Joga Ram, Principal Secretary and Commissioner of the Panchayati Raj Department, along with senior officials from the Panchayati Raj, Watershed, Forest, School Education, Information & Technology, and Rural Development departments.
