Multiple Houses Collapse In Lawngtlai Due To Heavy Rainfall

Lawngtlai : Due to continuous heavy rainfall, around 10:45 PM last night, three separate houses collapsed in Lawngtlai’s Bazar Veng and Chandmary areas. Upon receiving information about the incidents, Lawngtlai Deputy Commissioner Pu Cheemala Siva Gopal Reddy immediately visited the affected sites.

The rescue and relief operations were conducted under the coordination of CYLA (Christian Youth Leadership Association). Personnel from the 3rd IR Battalion, Assam Rifles, District Disaster Management & Rehabilitation Department, and the CYLA Quick Response Team were actively involved in the efforts. Agencies such as NHIDCL and ABCI also provided their resources and manpower to support the operation.

Rescue work, which began last night, continued through today. The most severely affected was a building that collapsed completely, trapping around four individuals. By this afternoon, two persons had been rescued safely, while efforts were still ongoing to rescue the others.

Today, CYLA mobilized volunteers across the Bazar Area from various local branches — including Vengpui, Council Veng, Bethel Veng, L-III, and Bazar YLA Branch — to participate in relief efforts. In the Chandmary area, volunteers from Chawnhu, College Veng, Electric Veng, Chandmary, and Thingkah YLA Branches also joined the operation.

The collapsed buildings in Bazar Veng belonged to Pi Vanlalhlupuii Fanai, Pu B. Vanhnuailiana, and Pu C. Lalchungnunga. In Chandmary Veng, the collapsed houses were those of Pi C. Nihluani, Pu F. Rothuama (under construction), and Pu F. Lalnithanga (under construction).
