CM Rekha Gupta Vows Cleaner Air, Rural Upliftment as Delhi Turns the Corner on Pollution
New Delhi : Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday said the national capital is finally witnessing a turnaround in its pollution levels, which had reached alarming levels due to the “negligence” and “policy failures” of previous governments.
In a post on X, CM Gupta noted, “Delhi had become the most polluted city in the country, but now the situation is changing.” She affirmed that her government is pursuing a comprehensive and result-oriented strategy to tackle air pollution and improve environmental health.
Gupta highlighted key initiatives already underway, including the introduction of an effective electric vehicle policy, installation of over 1,000 water sprinklers, and the ongoing effort to plant more than 7 million trees across the city. “Making Delhi’s air clean and pure is our top priority. Decisive steps are being taken at every level,” she stated.
The Chief Minister also emphasized the government’s commitment to reviving the Yamuna River, strengthening the environmental fabric, and enhancing Delhi’s cultural heritage. “Our resolve to make Delhi a prosperous, cultural, and environmentally rich capital is unwavering,” she added.
Meanwhile, efforts to boost rural infrastructure and sports development also gained momentum on Saturday. BJP Delhi president Virendra Sachdeva and Member of Parliament Kamaljeet Sehrawat laid the foundation stone for a Rs 12 crore sports stadium and training facility in Jharoda Kalan, Najafgarh. The complex will include badminton courts and facilities tailored to encourage local sporting talent.
Sehrawat expressed hope that the stadium would emerge as a center of excellence for rural youth in Delhi. Sachdeva added that development projects worth Rs 14 crore were launched across rural areas and credited Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena for supporting these initiatives through the Pradhan Mantri Gramodaya Yojana.
“A Viksit Delhi is impossible without Viksit Villages,” Sachdeva said, underlining CM Rekha Gupta’s vision for a holistic, inclusive, and developed capital aligned with the goal of Viksit Bharat.
