CM Bhupendra Patel Approves ₹107 Crore Grant for Road Repairs in Urban Areas Ahead of Monsoon

Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel has made proactive preparations to ensure timely resurfacing and repair of roads in urban areas of Gujarat that are likely to be severely damaged during this year’s monsoon due to heavy rainfall.

To address this, the Chief Minister has granted in-principle approval for a ₹107 crore fund under the Swarnim Jayanti Chief Minister Urban Development Scheme, specifically through the Chief Minister Urban Road Scheme, benefiting 149 municipalities across the state.

Considering the potential for significant road damage during the monsoon season, the Chief Minister has adopted a public welfare approach aimed at improving road safety and ensuring better road conditions in cities through early resurfacing and repair of damaged roads.

Moreover, in towns where road conditions are already poor due to prior digging for underground drainage or drinking water pipelines, the state government will allocate additional funds before the monsoon for necessary road repairs based on requests from the concerned municipalities.

As part of this advance planning initiative, CM Patel has approved grants based on the classification of municipalities as follows:

  • Category A: 37 municipalities to receive ₹1 crore each, totaling ₹37 crore
  • Category B: 34 municipalities to receive ₹80 lakh each, totaling ₹27 crore
  • Category C: 61 municipalities to receive ₹60 lakh each, totaling ₹36 crore
  • Category D: 17 municipalities to receive ₹40 lakh each, totaling ₹6.8 crore

These allocations add up to a total of ₹107 crore, which will be distributed to the respective municipalities by the Gujarat Urban Development Mission under the Chief Minister Urban Road Scheme.

Additionally, if urban roads suffer further damage during the monsoon beyond initial estimates, the state government is prepared to provide extra financial assistance based on urgent needs and requests from municipalities, reflecting CM Patel’s people-centric governance approach.
