Saitual DC Inaugurates Inter-District Wrestling Championship 2025
Saitual : The Inter-District Wrestling Championship 2025 (Freestyle – Sub-Junior, Cadet, and Junior categories), organised by the Mizoram Wrestling Association, was officially inaugurated today at the Saitual College Hall. The event, scheduled to take place over two days, was flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner of Saitual, Dr. Lalngura Tlau.
In his address, Dr. Tlau expressed pride in Saitual District’s achievements in wrestling, noting that the district has consistently produced champions across various categories. He also highlighted the importance of wrestling as a significant sport for India, citing its status as one of the top medal-winning disciplines at international levels. He encouraged young wrestlers to aim high and represent the nation by securing medals on global platforms.
The Deputy Commissioner further stated that efforts are being made to develop wrestling infrastructure in Saitual District. He confirmed that land has already been identified for constructing a dedicated wrestling hall and expressed optimism that the project would soon be implemented. He also mentioned the growing popularity of fitness centers and gyms among local athletes, which is a positive step toward their physical preparedness.
Dr. Tlau urged all participating wrestlers to give their best and called for fair competition and disciplined conduct throughout the event.
A total of 139 wrestlers from different districts are participating in the championship. The representation includes 69 from Saitual, 19 from Aizawl, 18 from Kolasib, 27 from Serchhip, and 5 from Mamit.
The inaugural function was presided over by Pu Lalawmpuia, President of the Saitual District Wrestling Association, while a brief report was presented by Pu Lalrochhuanga Colney on behalf of the Mizoram Wrestling Association.
The closing ceremony of the championship is scheduled to take place tomorrow, and Mizoram Wrestling Association President Ngurthansanga is expected to officiate as the Chief Guest.
