Complete Pending Water Supply Project Works Within the Set Deadline – Divisional Commissioner Jitendra Papalkar
Divisional Commissioner inspects progress of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Water Supply Scheme
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : Divisional Commissioner Jitendra Papalkar conducted an inspection today of the ongoing works from the jackwell at Jayakwadi Dam to the water purification plant at Nakshatrawadi. He announced that the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Water Supply Scheme will be fully technically completed and operational by the end of October. He set specific deadlines for each component — including the jackwell, approach bridge, and filtration plant — and directed all concerned departments to complete the works within the stipulated time frame.
During the inspection, Manisha Palande, Chief Engineer of the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP), Deputy Municipal Commissioner Devidas Tekale, Executive Engineer Kiran Patil, and Project Management Consultant Mr. Deshmukh, along with other key officials from related departments, were present.
Commissioner Papalkar emphasized that the water extraction from the jackwell must begin on time, the 26 MLD phase should be completed by the end of June, and the contractors must arrange adequate manpower and machinery to meet the deadlines.
He further instructed the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran, the contractor company, and municipal authorities to maintain close coordination and ensure timely completion of the project. He reviewed the remedial measures taken by the municipal corporation and the contractors.
To meet the deadlines, Papalkar instructed that manpower should be increased, connections at 24 locations must be completed, and work on the construction of 30 tanks and distribution system connections — which are currently delayed — should be expedited by the contractor.
He also visited the project sites including the jackwell at Jayakwadi Dam, the main water pipeline work at Chitegaon, the 26 MLD water purification plant at Pharola, the 392 MLD plant at Nakshatrawadi, and the main balancing reservoir at Nakshatrawadi to assess progress and identify challenges.
A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) related to this water supply scheme is ongoing in the Honourable High Court, and the administration has been providing regular updates. The latest review was submitted on June 11. Recently, the Chief Minister also chaired a review meeting in Mumbai, where instructions were issued to complete all technical aspects of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Water Supply Scheme and make it operational by October.
Senior officials from all relevant departments were present during the inspection.
