India Leads the World to Wellness Through Yoga: CM Yogi Adityanath
CM performs yoga at Gorakhnath Temple on International Yoga Day; lauds PM Modi for globalizing India’s ancient tradition
Gorakhpur – Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said that yoga is one of the finest contributions of Indian wisdom to the world and has become a global medium for human welfare. Speaking at a special International Yoga Day session at the historic Gorakhnath Temple, the CM highlighted how yoga has enabled India to lead the world towards holistic well-being.

Participating in a mass yoga session at the Mahant Digvijaynath Memorial Auditorium, CM Yogi stated, “Yoga is a mantra from India’s rich Rishi tradition that offers not just a healthy body but also a sound mind.” He emphasized that yoga, which has its roots in India’s ancient spiritual philosophy, paves the way for achieving the four key aims of human life — Dharma (righteousness), Artha (wealth), Kama (desires), and Moksha (liberation) — all of which are only possible through a healthy body.
The Chief Minister quoted the ancient Sanskrit verse, “Shariramadyam Khalu Dharma Sadhanam” (The body is the primary instrument for the pursuit of Dharma), underlining the importance of physical health in spiritual and worldly pursuits. He further said that India transformed yoga into a means for public welfare and, through it, showed the path of global welfare.

Yogi Adityanath credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bringing international recognition to yoga. He recalled that in a time when foreign nations were trying to patent yoga postures and India risked losing its legacy, PM Modi successfully advocated at the United Nations, leading to the declaration of June 21 as International Yoga Day from 2015 onwards. “Today, over 190 countries are embracing India’s ancient practice,” he added.
Highlighting yoga’s spiritual and scientific depth, CM Yogi said that Indian sages used yoga to explore higher dimensions of consciousness. From personality development to unraveling the mysteries of the cosmos, yoga’s wisdom is embedded in India’s Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, and scriptures.

The CM stressed that yoga has the power to cure ailments, quoting, “Na tasya rogo na jara na mrityuh praptasya yogagni mayam shariram” (One whose body is refined by the fire of yoga is beyond disease, aging, and death). He expressed hope that enthusiasm for yoga would lead to improved individual health, social welfare, and national progress.
Before leading the yoga session, CM Yogi listened to Prime Minister Modi’s live address to the nation on the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day. Afterward, he joined yoga practitioners and trainees in practicing various asanas, pranayama, and meditation.
Yoga is a regular and indispensable part of CM Yogi’s daily routine. The mass yoga session at the temple included Water Resources Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, MP Ravi Kishan Shukla, Mayor Dr. Mangalesh Srivastava, MLAs Fateh Bahadur Singh, Mahendra Pal Singh, Vipin Singh, and Pradeep Shukla, along with numerous officials, yoga instructors, and the general public.
Alongside the auditorium session, parallel group yoga activities were held across the temple complex, showcasing the unifying and holistic power of India’s spiritual treasure — yoga.
