Sealdah RPF Foils Major Narcotics Smuggling Attempt
*One Person Arrested with 6.338 kgs of Narcotic Substances Worth ₹3.35 Crores*
In a major success in the fight against narcotics smuggling, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Sealdah Division apprehended one person in possession of suspected narcotic substances valued at approximately ₹3.35 crore during a routine security check.
On 19.06.2025 at around 19:00 hrs, during random checking at Platform Nos. 12 and 13 of Sealdah Railway Station, RPF personnel detained a suspicious individual carrying two bags. On interrogation, he identified himself as Abbas Ajameri (Age 51 years), a resident of Rajasthan. The individual claimed to have arrived from Ajmer and was waiting for someone to receive his consignment but failed to provide details of the goods.
Upon checking his baggage in the presence of independent witnesses, the RPF team found: In one grey cloth bag: Two polythene packets wrapped in yellow cello tape bearing the Ultratech Cement logo, concealed beneath garlic. In a second blue backpack marked “Goldline”: Two more similarly packed packets.
The materials appeared to be narcotic substances. Following due procedure under the Narcotics Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the information was immediately conveyed to RPF superiors and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Kolkata. Officers from NCB along with Assistant Security Commissioner-2/RPF Sealdah promptly reached the site.
n their presence, a thorough search was conducted under videographic documentation. The recovered substances were tested using a drug detection kit and found to be:
1.568 kg of brownish powder (suspected Morphine)
1.572 kg of brownish powder (suspected Morphine)
1.594 kg of brownish powder (suspected Heroin)
1.604 kg of brownish powder (suspected Heroin)
The estimated market value of the total recovered narcotic substances is about ₹3.35 crore (Three crore and thirty-five lakh rupees).
The entire seizure operation was conducted from 21:00 hrs to 23:30 hrs on the said date at Sealdah station.
A formal written complaint was lodged by Sub Inspector Ashutosh Kumar to the NCB. Based on this, a case has been registered by NCB Kolkata under Sections 8(c), 21(C), and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
