Mahanirmiti to Set Up 1071 MW Solar Power Projects in the State – CM Devendra Fadnavis Three lakh farmers in the state to benefit
Mumbai : To reduce dependence on conventional energy, lower carbon emissions, provide uninterrupted daytime electricity supply for irrigation, and increase agricultural productivity, the government is implementing various schemes. For promoting sustainable development in the state, Mahanirmiti (Maharashtra State Power Generation Co. Ltd.) will soon commission solar energy projects with a capacity of 1071 MW under ‘Chief Minister Solar Energy Project 2.0’. These projects will benefit around three lakh farmers in the state, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Mahanirmiti (Maharashtra State Power Generation Co. Ltd.)
Mahanirmiti is a wholly-owned subsidiary company of Maharashtra State Electricity Board Holding Company Ltd., and with about 13,880 MW capacity, it is one of India’s largest state-owned power producers. After NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation), it is the second-largest state-owned generation company in the country. Mahanirmiti, with diversity in energy production such as thermal, gas, hydro, and solar, is starting renewable energy projects that will help in providing electricity at lower rates to consumers and reduce carbon emissions.
GEAPP India (Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet)
GEAPP India (Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet), founded with the cooperation of The Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation, and Bezos Earth Fund, helps in just, balanced, and rapid green energy development in developing countries. GEAPP India is the Indian branch of GEAPP LLC and is specifically implementing initiatives suitable for distributable energy in India.
Chief Minister Solar Agriculture Feeder Scheme 2.0
The objective of the state government is to reduce reliance on traditional energy, lower carbon emissions, provide continuous daytime electricity for irrigation, and boost agricultural productivity. The Chief Minister Solar Agriculture Feeder Scheme 2.0 is Maharashtra Government’s highly ambitious scheme aimed at reducing service costs for agricultural consumers and promoting the economic development of farmers through sustainable energy. Under this, solar projects for agricultural use are added through a distributed renewable energy system. By 2025, the target of solarizing about 30% of feeders has been set under ‘Mission 2025’. For this, decentralized solar projects ranging from 0.5 MW to 25 MW capacity are being set up within a 5–10 km radius of distribution substations bearing agricultural load to provide daytime electricity to farmers.
GEAPP to assist Mahanirmiti in Solar Energy Project
GEAPP India will provide a Project Monitoring Unit (PMU) facility and a digital platform for the effective implementation of this project, enabling data collection, status tracking, and smooth project management. With the use of GEAPP’s technology and innovations, the effective implementation of Chief Minister Solar Energy Project 2.0 will be carried out. The main objective of this project is to boost sustainable development in Maharashtra.
To complete these solar power projects on time, a Strategic Joint Committee will be established, which will guide on the Chief Minister Solar Agriculture Feeder Scheme 2.0. All stakeholders will be included in this committee. A Central Dashboard will be prepared jointly by GEAPP India and Mahanirmiti, through which daily monitoring of land acquisition to project execution progress will be done. Training will be provided to all stakeholders for dashboard usage to ensure timely completion of the solar projects. Through this project, new employment opportunities will also be created.
