Yogi govt accelerates expansion of facilities at child care homes

Lucknow : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government is setting new standards for the safety, education, health, and rehabilitation of women and children. The Women Welfare Department has initiated a significant move to strengthen and support all state-run shelter homes, childcare homes, special homes, women’s shelters, and old-age homes across Uttar Pradesh.

As part of this initiative, the Yogi government is working to enhance facilities for women and children living in these shelters. The aim is not only to provide a safe and supportive environment, but also to help them become self-reliant and integrate into mainstream society.

In the first quarter of the 2025-26 financial year, the state government allocated more than Rs 10.67 crore for these institutions across various districts. This funding will cover food, supplies, equipment, and outsourced services, ensuring better care and improved quality of life for the residents of these shelters.

It’s important to note that for children living in childcare homes, ₹4,000 per child per month is provided for food, and ₹3,000 per child per month is given for other needs like clothing, education, and health. Similarly, for women living in government-run women’s shelters, ₹4,700 per person per month is provided for food, and ₹800 for personal hygiene and other basic requirements.

The Women and Child Development Department is also working to make a positive impact on the lives of children in these childcare institutions. An important part of this new initiative is that 561 children have been enrolled in reputed private and public schools like DPS, Ryan International, and Study Hall. In addition, health checkups and medical profiling of every resident in these homes are being ensured.

Along with financial help, the Yogi government also values emotional connection and support. It has urged District Magistrates, administrative officers, and their families to adopt these institutions and spend time with the children and women during personal occasions like festivals, birthdays, and anniversaries. This will help make them feel loved, cared for, and more confident.

The administration and public have also been encouraged to support these institutions by providing educational help, skill-training, life skills, sports, art and craft, personal hygiene awareness, career guidance, and healthcare services. Help from social organizations, volunteers, and technical institutions is also being taken so that every child and woman can lead a self-reliant and dignified life.

Additionally, more than ₹2.19 crore has been released for small construction works in Prayagraj, Hardoi, Ghazipur, Meerut, Mau, and Etawah districts to improve the infrastructure of these centers. These initiatives by the Women Welfare Department aim to give thousands of vulnerable children and women in Uttar Pradesh safety, respect, and self-reliance.

All schemes related to women’s welfare will now follow a three-pronged strategy of sensitivity, responsibility, and participation.
