Chief Minister Inaugurates Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Vellore and New Health Facilities Worth ₹204.81 Crores

The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M.K. Stalin, today (25.06.2025), inaugurated the newly constructed Government Vellore Multi-Specialty Hospital, built at a cost of ₹197.81 crore, and also inaugurated additional buildings in seven Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and new buildings in two Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) constructed at a cost of ₹7 crore.

The Chief Minister reached Vellore today from Chennai Central Railway Station to participate in various welfare programmes across Vellore and Tirupattur districts. He was warmly welcomed at Katpadi Railway Station by ministers, Members of Parliament, MLAs, and officials.

From there, the Chief Minister proceeded to the inauguration site of the Vellore Multi-Specialty Hospital on the premises of Government Pentland Hospital, where the public had gathered in large numbers to welcome him.

Government Vellore Multi-Specialty Hospital

The new Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, with eight floors including a basement, has been constructed on 2.15 lakh sq. ft. of land with a built-up area of 3.77 lakh sq. ft., at a cost of ₹197.81 crore. The foundation stone was laid by the Chief Minister on 22.08.2023.

The hospital includes:

  • Ground floor: Women’s ward, casualty, emergency services, outpatient services, radiology, blood bank, linen room, etc.
  • First floor: Pediatric surgery, blood bank, pediatrics.
  • Second floor: Pediatric medicine, physiotherapy, adolescent health, pediatric ICU.
  • Third floor: Neonatal ward, neonatal ICU, pediatric support services.
  • Fourth floor: General and emergency pre- and post-operative care, ICU.
  • Fifth floor: Geriatric psychiatry.
  • Sixth floor: Pathology, microbiology, biochemistry, diagnostics.
  • Seventh floor: Operating theatres, post-anesthesia recovery rooms.

The hospital has 560 beds, 11 operation theatres, 9 elevators, a central oxygen supply, sewage treatment plant, and power backup systems including high-voltage transformers.

Additional Buildings in PHCs and New Buildings in UPHCs

The Chief Minister also inaugurated 7 new/additional buildings in PHCs and 2 new buildings in UPHCs, constructed at a total cost of ₹7 crore in Vellore district:

  • Additional blocks at PHCs in Varkadu, Thirumani, Odugathur, Usur, Sholinghur, and Laxmipuram.
  • A new outpatient block at Vellore Corporation Urban PHC in Satharappadi.
  • New urban PHC buildings in Walajapet Municipality and Mohammedpuram, Alangayam Union.

Comprehensive Government Healthcare Initiatives

This effort is part of Tamil Nadu’s larger goal to provide high-quality healthcare through schemes like:

  • “Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam” (Healthcare at People’s Doorstep)
  • “Innu Uyir Kaapom 48” for reducing fatalities from road accidents
  • Upgradation of existing medical facilities and establishment of diagnostic infrastructure
