MADC CEM Pu M. Laikaw Inaugurates Media Workshop in Siaha

Siaha : A Media Workshop jointly organized by the District Information & Public Relations Office, Siaha, and the Mizoram Journalists Association (MJA), Siaha branch, was held today at the IPRO Conference Hall, Council Vaih, Siaha. The event was inaugurated by Pu M. Laikaw, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC), who also served as the Chief Guest.

In his address, CEM Pu M. Laikaw expressed appreciation for being invited as the Chief Guest and commended the organizers for hosting such a meaningful media workshop. He acknowledged the valuable role journalists play in keeping the public informed over a long period and noted the evolving nature of journalism in the digital age, highlighting the importance of skills and ethical practices in meeting public expectations.

He emphasized that Good Governance, as envisioned in the New Maraland Vision, is a key priority for the MADC Government. This includes integrity, rule of law, transparency, accountability, disciplined public service, and corruption-free administration. To realize this vision, he stressed the need for moral reformation and public cooperation, encouraging the people to be active participants in governance and societal progress. He added that individual transformation, guided by divine principles and compassion for others, is essential for true community development.

Pu Laikaw also stated that journalists act as a bridge between the government and the people. Their role as the voice of the public makes them vital partners in democracy. He encouraged them to be objective, responsible, and professional in their reporting. He reminded them that media professionals are often regarded as opinion-makers and must be guided by sincerity and impartiality in all their work.

Touching on public health, he raised concern about the increasing spread of serious diseases like HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis in the district, urging journalists to be proactive in spreading awareness and educating the masses about prevention and treatment, while also preserving the cultural and moral values of the Mara community.

The media workshop consisted of two sessions. The first session was chaired by Pu Jeffrey Khara, Editor of Moonlight and acting President of MJA Siaha. During the session, Pi K. Ngosai, DIPRO Siaha, also gave a vote of thanks.

The second session was also chaired by Pu Jeffrey Khara and featured two main presentations. Pu Vanneihtluanga presented a paper titled “Traditional Media and New Media”, while Dr. H.
