No-confidence Motion placed After the End of a Working Day – spurs widespread criticisms in Bulgaria.
A no-confidence motion that has been tabled by the Vazrazhdane party, this time over the government’s failure in the area of fiscal policy, has created a stir in the Bulgarian Politics. Vazrazhdane is known for its far-right, ultranationalist, and anti-EU stances, as well as for its opposition to immigration.
The no-confidence motion which reiterated that the Cabinet, supported by the current ruling coalition, is deepening fiscal imbalances and is not taking the necessary urgent measures to restore the sustainability of Bulgaria’s public finances, the message said. The budget of this government pursues wrong objectives, based on false statistical data, over-optimistic macroeconomic forecasts, and unrealistic expectations of tax revenue collection. And most importantly: there is no public support for the cabinet’s intentions to cede a key part of Bulgaria’s sovereignty by destroying the 145-year-old Bulgarian lev, by abolishing the currency board, by relegating the BNB to an affiliate of the ECB, the text says.
Submitting a vote of no confidence after the end of the working day is merely an attempt to abuse the procedure, Parliament Chair Nataliya Kiselova told journalists on Saturday in the village of Manastirishte, Vratsa, commenting on the motion tabled Friday night by Vazrazhdane, supported by signatures from MPs from Velichie and MECh.
“Other times they give a lot of interviews, but now they are very quiet, which shows that they themselves do not believe in the arguments they have put forward in their request”, Kiselova said. She expects the debates on the topic to take place in the middle of next week. According to her, since the issue on which the vote of no confidence is sought is directly related to the country’s entry into the eurozone, the vote will not succeed.
