CM Stalin Distributes Appointment Orders to 172 Selected Candidates for Health Services

115 Assistant Medical Officers and 57 Physiotherapists appointed through transparent recruitment drives

Chennai : In a significant recruitment drive to strengthen the state’s healthcare system, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru M.K. Stalin today handed over appointment orders to 172 candidates selected for various health service roles under the Department of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy and the Tamil Nadu Medical Services Recruitment Board (MRB).

At a function held at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister issued orders to:

  • 115 Assistant Medical Officers, selected by the Medical Services Recruitment Board for positions in the Department of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy, and
  • 57 Physiotherapists (Grade-III), chosen through the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).

The 115 Assistant Medical Officers include:

  • 59 for Siddha medicine
  • 2 for Ayurveda
  • 1 for Unani
  • 53 for Naturopathy and Yoga (Level-II Assistant Medical Officers / Lecturers)

These appointments aim to fill existing vacancies and support the state’s goal of delivering comprehensive, holistic, and traditional healthcare across all districts. The Department of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy is a vital part of Tamil Nadu’s health system, offering services in Siddha, Ayurveda, Unani, Naturopathy, and Homeopathy through government hospitals and medical colleges.

In addition, the 57 Grade-III Physiotherapists had their selection process completed on May 12, 2025, and received appointment orders based on their final selection.

The Chief Minister highlighted that since 2021, the MRB has recruited 7,433 medical personnel, which includes:

  • 4,634 Assistant Medical Officers
  • 27 differently-abled nurses
  • 2,772 staff under Indian medicine systems

In the fiscal year 2024–2025 alone, appointments were made across seven recruitment batches, totaling 4,080 posts. For the current year, recruitment for 9,722 posts under 20 different categories is underway and will be completed by December 2025.

Additionally, under TNPSC’s recruitment, the following have been appointed and are currently serving:

  • 555 Assistant Medical Officer posts
  • 584 Junior Grade positions
  • 187 Technician roles
  • 255 Physiotherapist (Grade-III) posts

Further, 74 Junior Assistants and 11 Typists were recruited on compassionate grounds. In a welfare measure, 3,613 nurses, who were previously working on a contract basis, have been regularized with consolidated pay appointments.

  • Dr. T.K. Chitra, Additional Director of Medical and Rural Health Services
  • Other senior officials of the Government of Tamil Nadu

This mass recruitment initiative reaffirms the Tamil Nadu government’s commitment to public health and employment, particularly in strengthening traditional medicine systems and expanding healthcare services to underserved regions.
