Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan
Revival of Shaliwada Sharda’s dry pond brings greenery back to the village
As per the vision of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, the Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan is being conducted across Madhya Pradesh from March 30 to June 30, 2025. This campaign has transformed waterconservation into a mass movement by rejuvenating water sources throughout the state. In line with this effort, the village of Shaliwada Sharda in the Parasia block of Chhindwara district actively participated in the campaign and achieved what had remained a distant dream for years.
“The once dry pond is now brimming with water. Collective efforts have transformed the village into a haven of greenery.”
The transformation became possible through the joint efforts of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department and the villagers. The decades-old pond, located at the heart of the village, had become unusable due to accumulated dirt, overgrown bushes, and plastic waste. Under the Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan, the initiative taken by the PHE Department’s Parasia division—along with the leadership of the Gram Panchayat and active participation of the villagers—breathed new life into the pond, changing its fate and revitalizing the village.
The technical team first conducted a detailed survey of the pond and identified key areas for improvement. Following this, natural drains were cleaned to divert rainwater into the pond. To enhance its capacity, the pond was deepened and its water storage potential significantly increased. The villagers also played a vital role through shramdaan to the cleaning and reconstruction efforts, making it a true example of community participation.
Impact of waterlogging on life
Today, the once dry and polluted pond is filled with water. As a result, irrigation of nearby fields has become possible, hand pumps and wells have been recharged, and there are visible signs of improvement in
the groundwater level. The village has regained its greenery, and the farmers are filled with hope and happiness.

Talab ki kokh bhari, hariyali banker aasha ug aayi hai
The Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan has not only transformed a pond but also reshaped the mindset and future of an entire village. Embracing the spirit of “Jahan Jal, Wahan Kal”, Shaliwada Sharda has emerged as a shining example of community-driven water conservation. The villagers now deeply understand the value of preserving water.
