Mahatari Vandan Yojana – A New Milestone in Women Empowerment

On the sacred soil of Chhattisgarh, a social revolution is blooming.

Raipur : Long revered for honoring motherhood and the dignity of womanhood, Chhattisgarh is witnessing a transformative movement through the Mahatari Vandan Yojana. More than just a welfare scheme, it has evolved into a celebration of women’s dignity, self-respect, and independence, offering a new direction to the lives of lakhs of women across the state.

Launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 10 March 2024, the scheme was described as a “Festival of Women’s Dignity” — a commitment to bring every mother, sister, and daughter of Chhattisgarh into the mainstream. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai and the active participation of Women and Child Development Minister Smt. Laxmi Rajwade, the initiative quickly transformed into a mass movement. The government’s resolve, sensitivity, and dedication have ensured that the scheme reached every household.

Beyond Numbers: The Real Story

From March 2024 to July 2025, around ₹11,008 crore has been transferred directly to the bank accounts of approximately 70 lakh women across 17 installments. This is not merely financial aid — it is capital for dreams long suppressed by circumstances. The empowerment and confidence this scheme has instilled in women are reshaping their lives with new possibilities.

Pathway to Economic Self-Reliance

Today, women in Chhattisgarh stand on their own feet. Some have started small businesses; others are fulfilling educational and domestic needs with ease. This financial support has boosted their confidence, given them social recognition, and earned them respect. Women are no longer confined to traditional roles — they are emerging as the economic backbone of their families and a decisive force in society.

Every Village Woman, Now an Inspiration

The real impact of the scheme lies in the inspiring stories emerging from villages across the state:

  • Smt. Kanchan, from Gidha village in Mungeli, expanded her local snack cart business using the scheme’s financial support and now manages household responsibilities with ease.
  • Smt. Shyama Bai, from Kurud village and a member of the Kandara tribe, revived her traditional bamboo craft business. With help from the scheme, she now earns up to ₹8,000 per month.
  • Smt. Geeta Yadav, from Dighwadi village in Mohla-Manpur, shared that the annual ₹12,000 support helps with daily expenses, children’s medicine, and school supplies.
  • Smt. Kanti Bai, from Hathra village, said the assistance allows her to meet household needs independently, without relying on her husband for every small expense.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized that the scheme is not just financial support, but a step toward granting women rightful participation in society. Minister Smt. Laxmi Rajwade’s grassroots involvement has brought the scheme from policy to people’s pulse.

A New Dawn Breaks

Today, as we look into the lanes and homes of Chhattisgarh, we see more than numbers — we see stories of belief, confidence, and hope. Mahatari Vandan Yojana has become more than a government success — it is a symbol of societal joy. The voices of every mother and daughter in Chhattisgarh now echo with newfound confidence.

“Now, every mother is empowered. Now, every daughter is capable.”
