Implement New Criminal Laws Effectively for Swift Action Against Criminals – CM Devendra Fadnavis

Review Meeting on the Implementation of New Criminal Laws

Mumbai : Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed officials to ensure the effective implementation of the new criminal laws to accelerate criminal investigations. He emphasized that digital tools should be leveraged under these new laws and that necessary notifications and orders should be issued in line with central government guidelines to reduce delays in judicial procedures. The CM also suggested ranking departmental performance in implementing the new criminal codes across the state.

Speaking at a review meeting held at Vidhan Bhavan regarding the enforcement of the new criminal code, CM Fadnavis was joined by Minister of State for Home (Urban) Yogesh Kadam, Minister of State for Home (Rural) Dr. Pankaj Bhoyar, and Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar.

CM Fadnavis stressed the importance of effectively enforcing the new criminal laws. He directed the forensic department to conduct timely tests to aid in evidence collection. Forensic vans are being deployed in every district, and he mentioned that although vacant positions have been filled, additional manpower should be requested if required. He added that Maharashtra continues to lead the nation in facilities and citizen-centric services.

To empower the police force, regular training sessions must be organized for officers across the state. He also instructed the creation of master trainers to facilitate training for judicial officers, prison staff, and forensic lawyers. The public should be able to file complaints easily via the online FIR system. The use of tools like the e-Saakshi app and CCTNS system should be expanded. He also recommended strengthening the e-court system to improve conviction rates.

The Chief Minister emphasized the need for speedy investigations, especially in cases related to crimes against women. Investigations into molestation and assault cases should be fast-tracked, and efforts should be made to file charge sheets promptly.

Present at the meeting were Dr. Shrikar Pardeshi, Secretary to the Chief Minister; Dr. Iqbal Singh Chahal, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department; Rashmi Shukla, Director General of Police; Radhika Rastogi, Principal Secretary (Appeals and Security); Anup Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary (Law and Order); Suvarna Kevale, Principal Secretary, Law and Justice Department; Sanjay Kumar Verma, Director General (Forensics); Suhas Varkhe, Additional DGP (Prisons); and other senior officials.
