Bridging Gaps, Realizing Good Governance: Over 1,300 Roads Reopened in Jaipur under CM Bhajanlal Sharma’s “Rasta Khol Campaign”

Jaipur – Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma, the Rajasthan Government has launched an impactful initiative named “Rasta Khol Abhiyan” (Open the Road Campaign), which is now a beacon of hope and relief for thousands of villagers and farmers in Jaipur district. Within less than eight months, authorities have successfully reopened 1,310 long-blocked village roads, significantly easing access to farms and rural areas.

The campaign, guided by CM Sharma’s vision of transparent and corruption-free governance, is being closely monitored by District Collector Dr. Jitendra Kumar Soni, who has ensured weekly progress. Roads that were blocked for decades due to encroachments are now being freed with local consent and cooperation.

Fagi Leads the Way with Maximum Roads Cleared

In terms of numbers, Fagi tehsil tops the chart with 118 roads reopened, followed by Mauzamabad where 96 roads have been made accessible again. This has transformed mobility for lakhs of villagers, eliminating long-standing travel hardships.

50-Year-Old Road in Ladana Made Usable Again

A compelling example of the campaign’s success comes from Ladana village in Fagi, where villagers had submitted a plea during the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Antyodaya Samarthan Camp to reclaim the encroached road connecting the main village to the cremation ground. Following the Collector’s prompt orders, SDO Rakesh Kumar led an administrative team that, within just 3 days, not only cleared the decades-old encroachment through mutual agreement but also constructed a concrete (CC) road and drainage system. What was once a narrow 4-foot alley has now become a smooth 12-foot-wide road, bringing relief to thousands.

Weekly Goal: 3 Roads Opened Per Tehsil

Nodal Officer Devendra Kumar Jain (Additional District Collector) shared that under the ongoing directive, each tehsil is opening at least 3 roads per week, utilizing persuasion and mutual understanding. As of now, over 1,310 roads that were closed for years in villages, hamlets, and farmlands have been opened.

Between November 15, 2024, and July 4, 2025, roads reopened across tehsils include:

  • Jaipur (4 roads)
  • Kalwar (8)
  • Amer (69)
  • Jamwaramgarh (60)
  • Aandhi (74)
  • Bassi (69)
  • Tunga (45)
  • Shahpura (82)
  • Jobner (71)
  • Kishangarh-Renwal (60)
  • Phulera (73)
  • Rampura-Dabri (57)
  • Jalsu (45)
  • Chomu (88)
  • Sanganer (27)
  • Chaksu (75)
  • Kotkhawda (51)
  • Madhorajpura (70)
  • Dudu (68)

Focus on Road Infrastructure Post Clearance

Collector Dr. Soni has also instructed officials to quickly initiate gravel and CC road construction once roads are opened. Gravel work has already begun at most cleared sites. In cases where road disputes are sub judice, petitioners are advised to seek appropriate relief from the courts.

Why the Campaign Matters

Encroachment on rural roads has long been a major grievance voiced during public hearings. Such issues not only burden villagers with legal costs and delays but also disrupt local law and order. With rising cases and widespread demand, the administration rolled out the Rasta Khol Abhiyan as a comprehensive solution to rural road accessibility.

The campaign stands as a powerful testament to the government’s resolve to eliminate bureaucratic delays, empower rural communities, and realize the vision of good governance on the ground.
