Gaurav Gogoi Appointed Deputy Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha
NEW DELHI, July 14: Gaurav Gogoi has been appointed as the deputy leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha. A letter regarding this decision has been sent to Speaker Om Birla by Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, according to AICC General Secretary (Organization) K. C. Venugopal.
Venugopal announced on social media that alongside Gogoi’s appointment, eight-time MP from Kerala, Kodikunnil Suresh, has been named the party’s chief whip in the Lower House. Additionally, Virudhunagar MP Manickam Tagore and Kishanganj MP Mohammad Jawed have been appointed as the party’s whips.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi was named the leader of the opposition and officially appointed to the position. Venugopal stated, “Guided by LoP Rahul Gandhi ji, the Congress and INDIA parties will energetically champion the people’s causes in the Lok Sabha.”
Gogoi, who was also the deputy leader in the last Lok Sabha, expressed his gratitude to Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Venugopal for their trust in him. “I congratulate my colleagues. Our aim will be to raise the voice of the people of India inside Parliament and strengthen our democracy,” Gogoi posted on social media.
With Rahul Gandhi serving as the LoP and handling other party commitments, Gogoi is expected to share significant responsibilities in the day-to-day workings of the House.
