Accelerate Infrastructure Projects in Nagpur and Amravati Power Sectors: CM Devendra Fadnavis
CM Fadnavis directs urgent planning for future power demand and development blueprint till 2035
Mumbai : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has instructed officials to expedite the development of power infrastructure projects in Nagpur and Amravati districts. Noting the rapidly growing demand for electricity due to expanding industrial, residential, and commercial sectors, the CM emphasized the urgency of planning to meet power requirements for the projected population growth by 2035.
At a review meeting held at the state legislature regarding the power supply systems in Nagpur district—including MSEDCL (Mahavitaran), Mahatransco, and the Koradi and Khaparkheda power projects—CM Fadnavis stressed the need to complete the currently funded works without delay. He also called for a comprehensive development plan for the electricity sector in both districts.
The meeting was attended by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Minister for Renewable Energy Atul Save, Minister of State for Finance Adv. Ashish Jaiswal, Minister of State for Energy Meghna Bordikar, and MLAs Ashish Deshmukh, Mohan Mate, Pravin Datke, and Charan Singh Thakur.
The Chief Minister stated that as investments in infrastructure increase, electricity demand in Nagpur and Amravati is also rising significantly. Ongoing projects approved under the current funding must be completed swiftly. He pointed out that many new projects are in the pipeline, and the Energy Department must implement concrete measures to prepare for them. He estimated that Nagpur would require ₹713 crore and Amravati ₹242 crore to meet the power infrastructure demands and recommended necessary budget allocations.
Fadnavis also highlighted the need for durable solutions to prevent damage to underground power cables caused by other utility works. He suggested the use of secure cable ducts to safeguard electrical wiring in growing distribution zones impacted by new development projects.
The CM directed that top priority be given to the following: strengthening the revamped distribution sector scheme, implementation of Kusum-B and solar agriculture pump schemes, upgrading transformer capacities, establishing new power substations, and meeting increased demand for electricity supply.
Principal Secretary to the CM Ashwini Bhide, Additional Chief Secretary of the Energy Department Abha Shukla, Secretary Dr. Shrikar Pardeshi, Environment and Climate Change Secretary Jayshree Bhoj, MSEDCL Managing Director Lokesh Chandra, Mahatransco MD Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, MAHAGENCO MD Dr. Radhakrishnan B., and MEDA DG Dr. Kandbari Balkawade were present at the meeting. District Collector of Nagpur Dr. Bipin Itankar and other officials participated virtually.
