Nepal PM Oli Visits Flood-Hit Rasuwa, Urges Swift Rescue Efforts
Seven dead, 18 missing as PM assesses Bhotekoshi River flood damage near China border
Rasuwa, Nepal – Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli visited the flood-affected Rasuwa district on Tuesday to inspect the destruction caused by the overnight flooding of the Bhotekoshi River. The disaster has claimed seven lives, while 18 individuals — including six Chinese nationals, three Nepalese policemen, and nine civilians — remain missing.
Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Home Minister Ramesh Akhtar, Energy Minister Deepak Khadka, and senior security officials, PM Oli reviewed the situation on the ground and interacted with personnel leading rescue operations. Several sections of the Lhamu highway remain impassable due to the damage.
Officials confirmed that 55 people have been rescued so far. During his visit, Oli instructed security agencies and the local administration to accelerate rescue and relief efforts. He also gathered details from security officials and assured immediate government action for rehabilitation and reconstruction in the affected areas.
The visit highlights the government’s commitment to responding quickly to natural disasters, particularly in sensitive border regions like Rasuwa.
