Decades-Old Drinking Water Crisis Resolved in Remote Bamhnai Village of Achanakmar Tiger ReserveDistrict Administration Brings Clean Water to the Forest Community, Wins Villagers’ Trust
Raipur : The longstanding drinking water crisis in Bamhnai village, nestled deep within the dense forests of the Achanakmar Tiger Reserve in Mungeli district, Chhattisgarh, has finally been resolved. A place where villagers once had to walk several kilometers to fetch water now has clean drinking water available right at their doorstep, thanks to the Jal Jeevan Mission.
This initiative by the district administration is not just about providing a basic amenity—it has become a symbol of hope, dignity, and transformation. To personally inspect the success of the initiative, Collector Shri Kundan Kumar and Superintendent of Police Shri Bhojram Patel visited the remote village. The Collector even drank the water drawn from a newly installed borewell to personally test its quality—a gesture that deeply resonated with the villagers and reinforced their faith in the administration.
Through the Jal Jeevan Mission, borewells and piped water systems are now operational even in the most inaccessible forest villages. Villagers shared how women and children once had to trek across hills and narrow paths daily to fetch water, especially in summers when scarcity was acute. The installation of borewells, pipelines, and accessible water sources has not only brought convenience but transformed lives. Women can now spend more time caring for their children and engaging in income-generating activities, and school attendance among children has significantly improved.
The availability of such a basic service in forest regions is a clear sign that the government is now prioritizing real, ground-level needs. This initiative is fostering improvements not only in health and hygiene but also in the social and economic fabric of the community.
Collector Shri Kundan Kumar emphasized to villagers that the administration’s goal is not just the implementation of development projects, but ensuring their sustainability. SP Shri Bhojram Patel also praised the active participation of the villagers and highlighted that real transformation comes from the collective efforts of government and society.
