A New Look for Anganwadi Centres: A Brighter Future Nurtured by Happy Little Steps

Raipur : The landscape of Anganwadi centres in Chhattisgarh is undergoing a transformative change. No longer limited to nutrition services, these centres are rapidly evolving into dynamic hubs for the holistic development of children. A shining example of this transformation is visible in the Saksham Anganwadi Centres located in Sanjay Nagar-2, Daldali Road, and Vishwakarma Ward under Urban Sector-1 of Mahasamund district. Here, education, nutrition, and social awareness seamlessly come together for the betterment of young lives.

The walls of these centres are alive with colourful drawings, educational charts, rhymes, and games that naturally engage children. Learning alphabets, numbers, rhymes, and life skills is being done through play-based methods. Messages like “Boys and Girls Are Equal” and “The Healthier the Growth Chart, the Healthier the Child” inscribed on the walls are igniting the spark of social change.

But the benefits extend beyond young children. Pregnant women and adolescent girls are also being supported through regular services such as nutritious hot meals, Suposhan Chaupals (nutrition awareness gatherings), vaccination drives, and health consultations. Teenage girls are being made aware of health, hygiene, and nutrition issues in a proactive and educational manner.

State Minister for Women and Child Development, Mrs. Laxmi Rajwade, praised this initiative and stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, the state government is achieving new milestones in the areas of child and maternal nutrition, health, and education. The transformation of these Anganwadi centres is becoming a strong foundation for long-term social reform.

According to Assistant Project Officer Mrs. Sheela Pradhan, several welfare schemes are being effectively implemented in these centres. These include the Mukhyamantri Bal Sandarbh Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, Noni Suraksha, Mahatari Vandana, and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana—all aimed at securing the rights of women and girls.

Modern facilities such as RO water purifiers, clean kitchens, playrooms, and ample supplies are now available. Anganwadi workers Rupa Bharti and Anju Chandrakar share that a wide range of activities—from Annaprashan (first feeding ceremonies) to adolescent awareness camps, health education sessions, and regular Mahatari Samiti (Mothers’ Committee) meetings—are conducted consistently.

This revitalised vision of Anganwadi centres is laying a solid foundation for a brighter future—one rooted in knowledge, health, and the spirit of equality.
