Officials from the National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities (NILD) also participated in the audits. Recommendations were made to improve accessibility wherever needed.

The following locations were visited and assessed during today’s Sugamya Yatra:

  1. Govt. Sihphir Higher Secondary School
  2. College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry
  3. IGNOU Regional Centre, Aizawl
  4. Mizoram ICFAI University
  5. Govt. Primary School-II, Durtlang

The Government of India launched the Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan) with the aim of eliminating physical barriers faced by persons with disabilities in public spaces. Under this initiative, the Sugamya Yatra was started in 2015 to assess and improve accessibility in buildings such as educational institutions, government offices, and public infrastructure.

These audits focus on making facilities more inclusive through the installation of wheelchair ramps, lifts, tactile signage, and other accessible features to ensure that persons using wheelchairs, those with visual impairments, and others with disabilities can access services without hindrance. The Sugamya Yatra is being implemented across the country with active involvement of audit teams and persons with disabilities.

In Mizoram, the campaign was launched on 21st February 2025 through a joint initiative by the Office of the PwD Commissioner and NILD. So far, the campaign has been conducted in seven districts, with the goal of eventually covering all districts across Mizoram through comprehensive access audits.
