NDA Finalises Rajya Sabha Seat Sharing in Andhra Pradesh; TDP to Contest Three, Jana Sena One

Amaravati, June 2026 : The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday finalised its seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, with the Telugu Desam Party deciding to contest three of the four seats while allotting one seat to its alliance partner, the Jana Sena Party.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting of NDA leaders held in Amaravati and chaired by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP national president N. Chandrababu Naidu. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan, state BJP president PVN Madhav, Jana Sena leader and Minister Nadendla Manohar, and Andhra Pradesh TDP president Palla Srinivas Rao.

The discussions lasted for more than two hours, during which leaders reviewed preparations for the Rajya Sabha elections, plans to highlight the achievements of both the state and Central NDA governments over the past two years, and other organisational and political matters, including the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

With the NDA enjoying an overwhelming majority in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, the alliance is virtually assured of winning all four Rajya Sabha seats that are scheduled to go to polls on June 18. As part of the arrangement, Jana Sena will secure its first-ever representation in the Rajya Sabha, marking a significant milestone for the party since its formation.

Sources within the alliance indicated that both TDP and Jana Sena are expected to announce their candidates within the next few days. The last date for filing nominations is June 8, while polling will be conducted on June 18 if required.

The four vacancies have arisen as the terms of current Rajya Sabha members Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy, Parimal Nathwani, Pilli Subhas Chandra Bose of the YSR Congress Party, and Sana Satish Babu of the TDP come to an end on June 21.

The NDA’s numerical strength in the 175-member Assembly gives it a decisive advantage. The TDP currently holds 135 seats, while Jana Sena has 21 legislators and the Bharatiya Janata Party has eight. In comparison, the YSR Congress Party has been reduced to just 11 seats following the 2024 Assembly elections.

The upcoming elections will further strengthen the NDA’s presence in the Upper House. Political observers note that the alliance is expected to secure all four seats without difficulty, and the possibility of unanimous elections cannot be ruled out if no opposition candidates enter the fray.

The Rajya Sabha elections come less than a year after the NDA’s emphatic victory in Andhra Pradesh, when the alliance swept 164 of the 175 Assembly constituencies and won 21 of the state’s 25 Lok Sabha seats. Since then, the coalition government led by Chandrababu Naidu has consolidated its position, and the latest seat-sharing arrangement reflects continued coordination among its alliance partners as they prepare to expand their representation in Parliament.
