Balod’s ‘Drone Didis’ Add a Modern Touch to the Traditional Hareli Festival

Chitralekha, Bhavana, and Ruchi Sahu Set a Unique Example of Blending Tradition with Technology

Raipur : On the auspicious occasion of Sawan Amavasya, as the traditional echoes of Hareli Tihar resonated across Chhattisgarh, Balod district gave the age-old festival a modern identity. This year, Hareli was not just about the traditional worship of agricultural tools—it witnessed a unique blend of custom and innovation, thanks to the district’s trailblazing ‘Drone Didis’.

Chitralekha Sahu, Bhavana Sahu, and Ruchi Sahu, three inspiring women from Balod trained under the ‘Drone Didi’ initiative, brought a new dimension to the celebration. In a heartwarming gesture, they worshipped their drones just like farmers traditionally worship their bulls—adorning them, performing aarti, and offering coconut and jaggery pancakes (cheela). This powerful symbolism reflected the growing role of technology in farming, while still staying deeply rooted in cultural values.

Chitralekha Sahu said, “The drone is now our agricultural tool. Worshipping it is an extension of our tradition. Even as we embrace technology, we remain connected to nature.” Bhavana Sahu added, “Drone technology has simplified farming. We hope every farmer in the district benefits from its potential.” Ruchi Sahu expressed her vision: “Our aim is to ensure that drones reach every field and farming becomes easier for all.”

The trio also expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for launching the ‘Drone Shakti’ initiative and promoting women empowerment through technology. They also appreciated the efforts of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai in encouraging agricultural innovation in the state.

On this sacred occasion of Hareli Tihar, the ‘Drone Didis’ extended their greetings to both the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister and pledged to continue spreading this beautiful harmony of tradition and technology to every village in the region.
