Rain Brings Joy to Rajasthan: Bisalpur and Navnera Dam Gates Opened for the First Time in July – Uninterrupted Water Supply Assured, Says CM Bhajanlal Sharma

Jaipur : Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed delight over the complete filling of Bisalpur Dam, calling it a moment of great joy for Rajasthan. Notably, this is the first time in history that the gates of Bisalpur Dam have been opened in July. He added that the filling of the Navnera Dam (a component of the Ram Jal Setu Link Project located in Itawa, Kota) will also prove beneficial for both water supply and agricultural activities.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government is committed to ensuring sufficient water supply across all regions of Rajasthan. Through initiatives such as the Ram Jal Setu Link Project, the Yamuna Water Agreement, the Dewas Project, and the Indira Gandhi and Gang Canals, the government is working to supply water to farmers and all sections of society. He noted that the favorable monsoon this year will help guarantee uninterrupted and regular water distribution throughout the state.

Bisalpur Dam Filled for the Second Consecutive Year

The historic date of July 24, 2025, marks a significant milestone for the state. Due to heavy rainfall in the catchment area, the water level in Bisalpur Dam reached its maximum storage capacity of 315.50 RL meters, prompting authorities to open Gate No. 10 by one meter, releasing approximately 6,000 cusecs of water. This is the first time the dam has filled completely in the month of July. It is also notable that the Bisalpur Dam has been filled two years in a row (2024 and 2025), a rare occurrence. The dam is a critical water source for nearly 10 million people in Jaipur, Ajmer, and Tonk districts.

Navnera Dam Gates Opened

Simultaneously, the Navnera Dam also reached full capacity on Thursday, with its water level hitting 214 RL meters. Following this, Gates No. 11, 12, and 13 were opened, releasing 600 cusecs of water. This controlled release will raise groundwater levels and recharge wells in the upstream areas along the Kalisindh River. The total storage capacity of the Navnera Dam is 226.65 million cubic meters, while the current live storage stands at 159.87 million cubic meters.

CM Sharma concluded by reaffirming the state government’s commitment to sustainable water management, ensuring that both agriculture and drinking water needs are met through efficient use of available resources.
