“Sensitisation on Schemes of NALSA and Training of Nyaya Sakhis on Laws Related to Women” Held at Reiek
Reiek : A sensitisation and training programme titled “Sensitisation on Schemes of NALSA and Training of Nyaya Sakhis on Laws Related to Women” was conducted today at the BDO Conference Hall in Reiek. The event was jointly organised by the State Legal Services Authority (SLSA) and the Women & Child Development (WCD) Department. The training was chaired and inaugurated by Pi Betty Lalrinfeli, BDO of Reiek.
Nyaya Sakhis from three villages under Reiek Block—Reiek, Rawpuichhip, and Kanghmun—under the Nari Adalat (Women’s Court) initiative participated in this session.
The Nari Adalat initiative primarily aims to support women facing various forms of challenges who may not be able to access formal courts or higher legal forums. It seeks to provide mediation, counselling, and resolution mechanisms at the Gram Panchayat or Village Council level. The platform also raises awareness on women’s rights, access to justice, and introduces the Handholding Policy to guide and support women through difficult circumstances.
The Nari Adalat initiative is being implemented in Aspirational Districts, and in Mizoram, 10 selected villages across 3 blocks—Reiek, West Phaileng, and Zawlnuam—in Mamit District have been identified. Reiek Block is the first to conduct the training, where Nyaya Sakhis were selected from three villages. A total of seven individuals—including Village Council members, NGO leaders, community influencers, teachers, and SHG representatives—were selected to be trained as Nyaya Sakhis.
The programme included awareness sessions on various schemes under the WCD Department aimed at empowering and protecting women, as well as educating them on their legal rights under different laws. The training also covered the role, responsibilities, and operational structure of Nari Adalats.
In addition to theoretical knowledge, practical training sessions were held on how to handle important documentation and manage case files. Interactive discussions and a Q&A session concluded the day’s programme.
