Trump Says Iran Nuclear Issue Nearing Resolution, Vows Tehran Will Not Acquire Nuclear Weapons
Washington, June 2026 : US President Donald Trump has said that the confrontation with Iran is approaching a decisive stage, asserting that Tehran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons will be halted and declaring that the issue will be resolved either through diplomacy or by other means.
Speaking at an agriculture roundtable in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, on Friday, Trump expressed confidence that the United States had already achieved much of its objective of preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear-armed state.
“We had to extinguish a nuclear weapon. We weren’t going to let that happen,” Trump told participants at the event.
The President suggested that the matter was nearing completion and would soon be resolved conclusively.
“We’ve largely finished that, you’ll see, and one way or the other, it’s finished,” he said. “It’s either finished with a piece of paper or finished a more difficult way.”
While Trump did not elaborate on any ongoing negotiations or discuss possible military options, his remarks indicated that the administration believes significant progress has been made in addressing concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme.
The comments came during a speech primarily focused on agriculture, trade, energy and the broader US economy. Trump linked developments involving Iran to energy markets, arguing that positive outcomes would contribute to lower costs for American consumers and farmers.
Addressing the gathering, he predicted further declines in energy-related expenses, which he said would directly benefit the agricultural sector.
“Your fertiliser prices are going to go way down,” Trump said. “Your fertiliser’s down, your energy’s down, your oil and your gas is all coming way down.”
He argued that easing geopolitical tensions and strengthening energy security would help reduce economic pressures across rural America.
“We’re at a point, we’re going to come out of Iran very quickly, and it’s going to be very strong,” the President added.
Trump also referred to previous military operations involving Iran, claiming that Iranian naval capabilities had suffered significant losses.
“With Iran, they have no Navy,” he said, asserting that a large number of Iranian vessels had been destroyed during military operations.
He further described the measures taken during the conflict as unprecedented, claiming that the blockade imposed by the United States represented an extraordinary demonstration of military power.
“There’s never been a blockade like that,” Trump remarked.
Returning to the issue later in his address, the President characterised the situation with Iran as unfinished business that his administration continues to address.
“We’re straightening out a little unfinished business in Iran,” he said.
The remarks come amid continuing international attention on Iran’s nuclear activities and regional security concerns. The Trump administration has repeatedly maintained that Iran will not be permitted to obtain a nuclear weapon and has emphasized that preventing nuclear proliferation remains a central pillar of US foreign policy.
Although Trump did not provide a timeline for any final agreement or resolution, his comments signalled confidence that the long-running dispute is moving toward a conclusion, with the administration determined to ensure that Iran’s nuclear ambitions are permanently curtailed.
