Guardian Minister issues key directives in review meeting
Nagpur – Revenue Minister and Guardian Minister of Nagpur, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, today directed both urban and rural police forces to remain fully prepared to maintain law and order and ensure peace during upcoming festivals and processions in the district.
Chairing a review meeting at the Police Commissioner’s Office, Minister Bawankule assessed the preparations of the city and rural police departments for upcoming festivals and events. Present at the meeting were Police Commissioner Dr. Ravindra Singhal, District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar, Additional Police Commissioners Vasant Pardeshi, Shivaji Rathod, and Rajendra Dabhade, along with Superintendent of Police Harsh Poddar and other senior officials.
Upcoming Festivals and Instructions Issued
Referring to a series of upcoming events like Nag Panchami, Narali Pournima, Raksha Bandhan, Independence Day, Krishna Janmashtami, Dahi Handi, Bail Pola, Tanha Pola, Marbat Procession, and Ganesh Utsav, the Minister instructed Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to organize peace committee meetings at the zonal level to maintain communal harmony.
He emphasized that all necessary steps must be taken to uphold law and order in the city and assured that modern facilities and equipment will be provided to the police. He also announced that funding will be allocated for the construction of a Police Bhavan in Kamptee.
Rural Review Meeting and Law Enforcement Focus
Later, a separate review meeting was held at the Rural Superintendent of Police Office, also chaired by Minister Bawankule. Present were Special Inspector General Sandeep Patil, SP Harsh Poddar, DCPs Anil Mhaskar, Deepak Agrawal, Vrushti Jain, and Vijay Mahulkar, along with other senior officials.
During the meeting, SP Harsh Poddar outlined preparations for rural areas during the festive season and shared insights into:
- The Zero Fatality Program
- Use of data analysis in crime investigation
- Effective implementation of AI tools
Minister Bawankule instructed the police to take strict measures to curb illegal activities in rural areas such as:
- Illegal lotteries
- Illegal sand mining
He also gave instructions for:
- Tree plantation drives in police station premises
- Senior officers (SP, ASP, DCPs, PIs) to regularly visit villages and engage with the public directly
Inauguration of Women and Child Protection Initiatives
Earlier in the day, Minister Bawankule inaugurated the ‘Operation Shakti’ and Shakti Help Desk of the Nagpur City Police, which are dedicated to combating:
- Sexual abuse against women and children
- Human trafficking
These initiatives are part of a broader push to enhance women’s safety and law enforcement responsiveness in Nagpur.
